Manager of Engagement

The Role
The Manager of Engagement is a subject matter expert in the field of Indigenous & stakeholder
engagement with significant provincial and federal regulatory experience. Their primary responsibilities
are overseeing client accounts, providing guidance and oversight for Communica’s Engagement team,
leading market specific business development initiatives and facilitating the growth the company.

Location: While Communica’s office is located in Calgary, modified remote options will be considered for
candidates located in either Alberta or British Columbia.

Primary Functions
The Manager of Engagement’s responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  1. Department Management
    1. Manage workflow for yourself and the Engagement department including overseeing
      performance, efficiencies, productivity and time management.
    2. Responsible for leading and motivating the Engagement team to achieve and exceed
      targets.
    3. With Communica’s leadership group, actively participate in the development of the
      company’s strategic direction, planning process and provide leadership for the
      implementation of assigned strategic initiatives.
  2. Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement
    1. Demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of the regulatory requirements of
      provincial or federal bodies to provide sound counsel with respect to Indigenous &
      Stakeholder engagement in western Canada.
    2. Oversee team leads in managing various virtual and in-person engagement initiatives
      including, special event logistics, community meetings, open houses or workshops.
    3. On behalf of our clients, develop and oversee the implementation of complex
      engagement plans, including provincial or federal regulatory reporting requirements.
    4. Identify and interface with key client stakeholders and effectively communicate client
      project messaging and business objectives.
    5. Travel to support projects can be expected.
  3. Business Development
    1. Identify new business opportunities.
    2. Pitch new business to potential and existing clients and support or lead in drafting
      proposals while adhering to Communica’s policies for new business approach and
      development.
  4. Communications
    1. Lead or direct on the writing of communication deliverables that demonstrate
      Communica’s creative approach and offer unique strategies tailored to the needs of the
      client.

About You
A driven and motivated individual who naturally takes responsibility for achieving results. Based on the
consulting nature of Communica, it is essential that you are an outcome driven individual who thrives in
a fast paced and ever-changing environment and can engage constructively in high level strategic
discussions.

  1. Education and Experience
    1. Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
    2. 7-10 years experience, whose primary purpose is to provide strategic and innovative
      counsel to clients with respect to Indigenous & Stakeholder engagement, with a strong
      focus on the energy or energy and infrastructure industries.
    3. Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, social sciences,
      public policy or related field.
    4. Strong understanding of both provincial and federal regulatory bodies, including CER,
      IAAC, AER, AUC, NRCB, BC OGC and BC EAO.
    5. Preference may be given to an inclusive professional with knowledge of Indigenous
      culture, traditions, values, perspectives, and experience.
    6. Demonstrated event planning experience (both virtual and in-person).
    7. Membership in CPRS, IABC or IAP2 would be an asset.
  2. Skills
    1. Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational
      abilities.
    2. Strong interpersonal skills, including consultations, negotiation, facilitation, risk
      communication and conflict resolution.
    3. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a constantly changing
      environment.
