And the growth goes on
[Carolina in Vancouver / Marina, Twyla and Garrett in Calgary]
Communica has welcomed four new team members this year – one in Vancouver and three in Calgary.
Carolina Quintana joined our Vancouver office in February. Carolina moved to Vancouver from Halifax, where she obtained a diploma in Public Relations from the Nova Scotia Community College following her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology from Dalhousie University.
The three new hires in Calgary have all joined our growing Stakeholder Information Management – SIM – team. Marina Spahlinger joined us as a full-time Analyst in January, having started on contract in 2011. Marina has an MA in Languages and is proficient in multiple stakeholder data management systems.
Garrett Bowden and Twyla Tracey both joined SIM as Analysts in February. Garrett has a B.Sc. in Health Information Science from the University of Victoria and has experience with information system design, a variety of software, knowledge transfer and report writing.
Twyla has a background in business analysis/administration and customer service, as well as strong analytical and research skills. She was worked as a business analyst with TransCanada, and as a well data administrator at the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board.
All four individuals bring additional knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the Communica team, which now numbers 20-plus consultants to meet the needs of our growing client base.

In the public eye
Although Communica normally provides behind-the-scenes support for clients, when asked to share our expertise publicly, we are happy to do so.
That is why Communica Principal and Senior Consultant Doug Ford is participating in the Canadian Oil and Gas Export Summit: Effective Strategies to Ensure Diversification of Canada’s Oil and Gas Markets conference on May 30, 2012, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver. Doug’s topic is Addressing the Aboriginal Concerns of Stakeholders on the Environmental Implications of Accessing the Coast of British Columbia. He will address the need to understand the regulatory processes related to B.C. coastal development, and examine the barriers to effective stakeholder and First Nation engagement.
A former senior Communica team member, Alan Roth, has also added to the public debate and discussion about energy development with a recent paper for the Canadian Energy Research Institute’s Geopolitics of Energy series. Alan has produced a well-researched and well-documented paper that argues that industry can and should fight what he calls “the stigmatization of the oil sands”. Copies can be obtained through CERI.
